Old Dads: Netflix snags Bill Burr comedy for October release

Date:

Netflix has acquired Old Dads, the director debut of comedian Bill Burr, and has slated the comedy for an October release.

Per Deadline, Netflix has snagged Old Dads, the feature directorial debut of comedian Bill Burr, with the streaming service giving the film an October 20th release.

In addition to directing Old Dads, Bill Burr also stars as Jack, a middle-aged father. Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine also star in Old Dads as Jack’s two best friends. After selling their company to a millennial, the friends find themselves out of step and behind the times as they hilariously struggle to navigate a changing world of culture, career and fatherhood. Burr co-wrote the script alongside Ben Tishler. The movie also stars Katie Aselton, Reign Edwards, Rachael Harris, Miles Robbins, and Jackie Tohn.

I’m very excited to start shooting Old Dads,” Bill Burr said when the project was first announced last year. “This comedy is based on my own and my co-writer, Ben Tishler’s, lives. Miramax has been awesome to work with and I think people are really going to like this movie.” Miramax CEO Bill Block added, “Burr is one of the top comedic voices of his generation and he has written a script that’s not just unwaveringly funny, but also full of heart and unfiltered cultural commentary. We’re thrilled to be collaborating with him and this fantastic cast, including Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine.

Burr’s longtime business partner Mike Bertolina told THR that the movie is like “Bill’s stand-up in a narrative format. You see this progression in him as he’s working on his own issues — most centered around his anger.” So if you’re a fan of Bill Burr’s standup, there’s a pretty decent chance that you’ll enjoy what Old Dads has to offer when it hits Netflix later this year.
