Doctor Who: Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson head back to the swingin’ ’60s as a groovy time-traveling duo

Date:

Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson step into the swingin’ ’60s for a fresh look at the new Doctor and his companion, Ruby Sunday, for Doctor Who!

The BBC revealed a groovy new look at Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson for the upcoming season of Doctor Who. The photo collage includes Gatwa’s 15th Doctor and Gibson’s Ruby Sunday, looking fresh to death in swingin’ ’60s threads that would make Austin Powers horny with envy. Details about Ncuti and Gibson’s debut remain a mystery. Still, the BBC says filming is underway for the special that introduces the dynamic duo.

Today’s image is the latest look at the pair after the BBC shared photos of the new cast members in December. The original images show Ncuti standing in a vacant lot at dusk and Ncuti and Gibson standing in front of a trailer. Ncuti is wearing a bright orange sweater tucked into a brown and black patterned suit. Meanwhile, Gibson is wearing blue shorts, a stylish denim jacket with a puffy collar, and black nylons. Ncuti and Gibson have polished boots that are perfect for traversing different places throughout space and time.

Before Ncuti and Gibson make their Doctor Who debuts, David Tenant, the 10th Doctor, returns for a special three-episode presentation. Neil Patrick Harris also stars in the upcoming special, though his role remains a secret.

“If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way. The path to Ncuti’s 15th Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun,” showrunner Russell T. Davies said in October. “We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose.”

We’re massive Doctor Who fans in my house. I’ve loved Ncuti since his fantastic role as Eric Effiong in the coming-of-age comedy series Sex Education. When he was announced as the new Doctor, I lost my mind instantly. I don’t need to tell you that Doctor Who is an institution. The show has been around since 1963, with the role of the Doctor changing hands 15 times. It’s the type of show that reinvents itself every few seasons, with new actors bringing a fresh approach to a classic formula. When they debut, I’m ready to jump back in the TARDIS with Ncuti and Gibson. Are you?
