Lego releasing Batcave modeled after Batman Returns design

Date:

Lego will release a nearly 4,000-piece Batcave set, modeled after the one depicted in 1992’s Batman Returns.

The Bat, the Cat, the Penguin…the Brick. Lego has announced they will be releasing a Batcave set this June modeled after the one featured in Tim Burton’s 1992 classic Batman Returns, itself designed by the great Bo Welch. And at nearly 4,000 pieces, it will definitely be one to flaunt when you flush–we mean finish–it.

As per Lego’s website, “this Batcave tableau contains an assortment of authentic details, including movable items that can be controlled from the rear. Users can turn the chair, change the computer screen and open and close the tool store and illuminated Batsuit™ vault.” Also housed within is the Batmobile, which, really, no Batcave is complete without. The set is a shadow box design in the shape of the bat-symbol, making it a fantastic display for bat-fans of all ages (well, those 18+, according to the box). The 3,981-piece Lego Batcave set measures 11 inches high and 20 inches wide and is currently up for pre-order for $399.99. The June 8th release date will line up closely with DC’s The Flash (June 16th), which will bring back Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

The Lego Batcave set also includes seven minifigures. In addition to Bruce Wayne and two versions of Batman, buyers will get Alfred Pennyworth and key Batman Returns characters in The Penguin, Catwoman and Max Shreck. So go ahead and have fun pushing Selina Kyle out of the shadow box! You can check out all of the pictures by clicking this link.

Lego has had a profitable partnership with the property, including countless sets, with more than a half dozen based on various Batcave iterations, going back to the 1966 television series (but that was a measly 2,526 pieces). There has also been a selection of Lego Batman movies, with the theatrically released The Lego Batman Movie proving to be a critical and commercial success. Unfortunately, the planned sequel is all out of lives.
